You’ve probably heard of detoxification, but did you know that this practice has existed since ancient times? Many people associate detoxification with health trends from the 1970s to the present, but this process dates back to pre-written human history. Detoxification even precedes Indian, Native American, Roman, and Greek culture.
The term detox was used to stop alcohol or drugs and is now one of the most modern words of the 21st century. This is a favorite topic in the global alternative health community, where it is hailed as a major breakthrough in the frantic quest of the human race for lifelong health, fitness, energy recovery and longevity.
Between one extreme and the other, some clear facts need to be considered to determine if detox makes sense, especially now that the symptoms of toxicity are increasingly appearing in the environment in which we live. Headache, digestive problems, bloating, muscle pain, cough, gastrointestinal problems, depression, weakened immune system, fatigue – these are all symptoms that can be attributed to overly toxic overload.
Do you suffer from any of the above symptoms?
The majority of people who undergo detox experience a feeling of extreme well-being as a result. They feel healthier, slimmer, cleaner, more energetic, stronger and more concentrated.
Using the following simple detox methods will successfully eliminate a wide range of symptoms that you are probably experiencing at the moment.
Herbal detoxification helps cleanse the body. Whether done during a religious fast or as a way to prevent disease, detoxification has always been revered for its sacred ability to connect the mind and body in a perfect way.
Detoxing is a very personal experience that requires diving into the deepest parts of your being. It takes an hour to remove all the toxic elements – physical and metaphysical – to return to a natural balance. There are many effective techniques for reliably rid the body of toxins.
Let’s look at how some of the ancient traditions work:
Purification according to ancient Indian wisdom
American cultures use a series of purification rituals to evoke psychic psychic visions, purify their minds, and heal their bodies.
Smudging is a major component in the detoxification of Indians (and shamans). Used for energy cleansing of the body. Smoke from white sage, juniper, cedar and resins are used to rid the body and space of negativity, excessive toxicity and purify the air around.
Detox according to Ayurveda
Ayurveda originated in India more than 3,000 years ago and is one of the world’s oldest healing systems, based on the belief that health and psyche depend on a delicate balance between mind, body and spirit. Its main function is to restore and maintain balance in the body, not to fight the disease.
Here is a recipe for daily Ayurvedic detox tea:
- green tea (or instead of caffeine, use chamomile, mint or thyme)
- fennel seeds
- coriander seeds
- cumin seeds
- fresh ginger
- lemon juice
- turmeric root.
You can add spices such as cinnamon, cloves or cardamom.
The tea is intended to be drunk throughout the day. It helps the body and organs excrete toxins while restoring metabolism.
Use this healing detox recipe every day and adapt it to your taste.
Activated carbon is a form of carbon that has a massive surface and a strong negative charge. It has been used for thousands of years and still exists in emergency departments for the treatment of poisoning.
Charcoal removes chemicals, heavy metals and toxins from the gut and intestinal tract, but can do the same with good elements such as vitamins and essential minerals, so we do not recommend taking it within an hour after other supplements.
Purification according to shamanic cultures
Many tribes in the jungle have practiced herbal diets and ceremonies to purify and balance the body.
Their diets are strict, lasting from seven days to several months, even years, designed to cleanse the body of toxic stagnation, emotional imbalance and spiritual confusion. Many of these traditional procedures require herbal diets to be done with limited sensory stimulation in order to immerse the individual deep in their essence.
The diet plan that is followed should not contain sugar, salt, oil, gluten, fermented foods, dairy products, meat and alcohol.

Russian method of liver detox
An ancient method created by the Russian people has been used for centuries to cleanse and detoxify the liver through the use of raisins. Although there are no real studies on the effectiveness of this method, the Russians believe that it works wonders.
The most important thing is to find raisins that have not been treated with sulfur dioxide. Check at a health food store or market. The packaging must state that they do not contain sulfur dioxide. If you can not find natural raisins, you can make your own using high quality organic grapes and dry them in a food dehydrator. Use red grapes, not white grapes.
How to prepare:
- Take 1/2 cup of raisins and cover them with hot water. Leave to soak for 15 minutes.
- Rinse them with fresh, cool, running water.
- Boil some more water and let it cool until it reaches room temperature.
- Put the raisins in a jar and cover them with boiled water. Then let them stand for 24 hours.
- Eat them and drink their water in the morning on an empty stomach.
- Lie down for an hour and a half or two with a bottle of warm water placed on the right side of your abdomen.
Remember that for effective results you should not consume any oils, dairy, meat or spicy foods on the day you want to detox. Our ancestors around the world have set aside one day a week for purification, in order to maintain the basic functions in their body.
The accumulation of toxins in our bodies seriously affects our physical and mental health. Purification (detoxification) of the whole body, from time to time, will certainly help to balance it, but there are some things you need to know before trying something new, such as a detox diet.
Let’s look at them here:
It is normal to experience some side effects during detoxification. Usually, the more toxins there are in your body, the more side effects you can expect. When you feed your body with nutritious foods and supplements to help your organs dispose of waste, your body is in a slight shock. It has adapted to a certain level of toxicity and when these toxins are removed, the body tends to resist these new elements.
Be sure that testing for symptoms is a good sign that your detox program is working well. Your body works hard to get rid of impurities, toxins, parasites and any imbalances and to heal from the inside out.
You may experience the following symptoms:
- Gas and bloating
- Skin irritation
- Mood swings
- Increased appetite
- Stomach pain
- Runny nose
- Low-grade fever
- Symptoms of a cold or flu
What else can you do?
Once you have completed a detox program, you can continue to help your body on a daily basis by following some of the following steps:
- Eat lots of fiber.
- Do exercises.
- Take extra vitamin C.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat less animal products, or eliminate them from your menu.
- Do breathing exercises.
- Spend more time in nature.
