What is the main cause that leads to the need of detoxification

Before commenting on how many stages detoxification can be performed, the main reason why detox is required should be indicated. Everyone knows that if we do not eat, the body can not live. But are we considering how many and complex biochemical processes in the body are associated with nutrition?

In fact – all.  The degradation of the consumed food, its processing to useful and waste /neutralized harmful/ substances, elimination of unnecessary, absorption of the useful substances, nourishment of the cellular growth, their renewal, building tissues and organs, immunity…

In order for all this to happen, the way of the food from its consumption to its elimination, requires 72 hours. If we overload and burden our digestion, it may take longer. But if we facilitate it, the time can be reduced to 18 hours.

Generally speaking, nutrition is related to both the overall health and the development of each organ. And nutritional mistakes can damage any individual system in the organism, as usually this leads to combined diseases.

If a person understands all this, he is more likely to be responsible with regard to the foods that he consumes and the way he eats them. In most cases, however, things are summarized by the general opinion that nutrition is required for us to live, so everything stops here. And we are negligent with regard to nutrition, which causes harm to us and leads to the need of detox.

The general mistakes we make

The main mistake is that people do not select products and dishes according to their usefulness for the organism, but nutrition is rather chaotic – without an established regimen that is consistent with the biological activity of the organs and systems. How many people explore the food labels in the supermarkets, taking into account their total calorific value, the content of fat, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins, the Е- preservatives and artificial colorants, flavors, preservatives, stabilizers and emulsifiers? The answer is: not many people.

Moreover, since people are busy all day until the “dark hours”, they have not found time to eat anything else than just a fatty banitsa, sandwich, croissant, döner kebab or biscuits. So by the time they get home they are very hungry. Usually, the late dinner is in front of the TV, accompanied by various family conversations that can not happen in other time because”there is no time“. So, it is easy to overeat this way, in particular when the digestion is not that active and the consumed food resides in the digestive tract. Let’s not talk about the night visits to the refrigerator without being really hungry, we just eat because we are awake and fill the time with this activity.

What about the weekends, when – even without being hungry – we eat abundantly, including lots of salt, sweet foods during football games, series on TV, etc. All this leads to overburdening of the digestive system, resulting in the formation of food residues in the digestive tract. This in turn causes processes of decay and fermentation, and release of toxins. The systems are not always able to neutralize and eliminate these toxins, so blood spreads them throughout the body.

Here we should also mention the toxins that we absorb from the environment – from the polluted air, water, etc. Thus, these accumulated poisons do harm at the first level – the cells, by disturbing the metabolism, the condition and functions of the organs, thus decreasing immunity.

These accumulations are beyond the natural abilities of the organism to self-cleanse. So it needs external help – the detoxification, which naturally activates the process for toxin cleanse.

Stages of detoxofication

Detoxification – without sudden moves

Our bodies do not like sudden moves – when a sudden change occurs, there are various protective measures. When the weather is very hot, for example, we start to sweat by which our body cools down; if the weather is cold, through changes in the blood supply, the organism “directs” body temperature to the important organs inside the body, but the limbs and skin lose heat; if we are hungry, the metabolism slows down, and the organism starts to accumulate fats as a “reserve”, and so on.

This essentially answers the question “What are the detoxification stages”. I.e. – they should be performed  gradually: physical and psychological preparation before starting the real detox; actual detoxification and, again gradually, ending the detox.

If the detoxification is performed professionally, these three stages last 21 days – one week per each. They guarantee complete purification of toxins, which can be directed to the whole body or to specific organs: colon, kidneys, liver, thyroid, etc.

During the PREPARATORY STAGE, the patient starts mild restrictions of certain foods. He should reduce the consumption of fats and proteins of animal origin, as well as the overall calorific intake. He should increase the consumption of omega fats, which eliminates bad cholesterol and strengthens the cellular membranes. The nutritional regimen includes combination of meats that are tender, for example, white chicken meat, as well as fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy products, vegetarian dishes, smoothies and juices, and gradually the regimen becomes completely vegetarian, based on fruits and vegetables.

Generally, a process of decrease in acidic processes and alkalization begins, which helps to transfer oxygen and nutrients, and improves metabolism.  In addition, in the evening, the patient should take herbal remedies with a laxative and cleansing effect for the colon. Many of the patients who decide to perform the detoxification o their own, experience high levels of stress, which is why during the preparatory stage they take soothing herbal remedies – food supplements, teas.

This preparation facilitates the metabolism and at the same time helps the body in terms of the switching to the actual detox not to be stressful for the biochemical process in the body.

The preparatory stage can be performed at home according to a plan designed by the teams of specialized detox clinics and after a detailed medical examination. But precisely because of the high stress levels mentioned above, and the doubts in their own will, many patients prefer to perform the preparatory stage in the specialized clinics.

Smokers experience a lot of problems because they should limit smoking and then quit it gradually. There are scientifically developed methods and techniques that are applied in the detoxification clinics, as well as psychological support to enhance the motivation.

Actual detoxification stage

The one-week actual detox should be performed in a specialized detox clinic under medical supervision.  The calorific intake is highly reduced – up to 3-4 times under the norm applied in the normal diet. This helps the cells to self-purify and “recycle” – they degrade and eliminate the waste old components: proteins, organelles, and so on.

This is achieved with the type of food – it is varied but is only plant and fruit based: fresh fruits and vegetables, juices, smoothies, steamed vegetables dishes and vegetable soups. The consumed food is soft and liquid in order for us to facilitate digestion. The selected vegetables are low-calorie and the calorific value is measured at 100 grams of the product.

The glycemic index is also considered to be low, and it is also determined at 100 grams. The lower the index, the more the release of energy is slower, resulting in a sense of satiety for a longer period of time. And vice versa – when we consume foods with a high glycemic index, the blood sugar increases rapidly, the energy releases quickly, so our strength decreases, but our appetite increases.

Suitable food for detox programs are the fresh cabbage /25 kcal and index 10/, tomatoes /23 to 10/, green pepper /26 to 10/, cooked broccoli /27 to 10/, green leafy vegetables for salad  /17 to 10/, celery stalks /13 to 15/, cucumbers /13 to 20/, raw carrots /35 kcal and index 35/, etc.

The dishes and soups can be prepared of lentils, millet, brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa and other products. At the same time, we need amino acids and carbohydrates that will strengthen the liver, because this organ will neutalize the released toxins. Amino acids can be obtained from brown rice, lentils, soy, etc. Carbohydrates can be obtained from the buckwheat, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, zucchini, potatoes, etc. These are complex carbohydrates that are slowly absorbed and useful because they help the control of blood sugar and cholesterol.

The role of vegetables does not stop here. Besides having high levels of important for the organism vitamins and minerals, they also contain a lot of fiber that regulate bowel activity and support the purification of the digestive tract. They, for example, remove excess cholesterol from the body. As a way of cooking, frying is not allowed, so the dishes can be boiled, roasted, as well as steamed.

The specific menu for each day of the week is compiled by the professional dieticians in the clinic. Along with the nutritional regimens, colon hydro therapy is also applied in the treatment, creating a favorable environment for useful bacteria, and the patient should consume various detoxifying herbs, teas and food supplements.

How to end the actual detox

Ending the actual detox should also be performed gradually. It can be done in the clinic, but if the patient decided to do it at home, the specialists will design an individual nutritional regimen for him. These include  both lists with useful and contraindicated foods, and a menu sequence  and way of consumption. The principle is to continue with small portions and regular meals: breakfast – brunch, lunch – afternoon snack – dinner 19 p.m. at the latest.

The first few day the diet should include the vegetables consumed during the actual detox in the form of juices, smoothies, soups, stewed vegetables, then we should gradually start consume these raw.  The goal is to nourish the healthy microflora of the intestines. Gradually and in a certain sequence we should include low-fat dairy products, eggs, meats – white chicken meat or turkey.

The consumption of teas and food supplements should continue for another month or two at the discretion of the specialists. On the third or fourth day, for example, we can consume fruits and vegetables at lunch, and the afternoon snack may include soaked raisins and oatmeal.

At noon, when the organism boosts the digestion, we can consume a little lean meat with vegetables, rye bread – one slice, or cooked rice or steamed potatoes. The dinner is recommended to be “protein” – proteins do not accumulate fats, but create a sense of satiety. You can consume curds, salad with some cheese on top, eggs, and so on. The next few days slowly switch to the normal diet for a longer period – as it was mentioned, according to a plan set by the specialists.
